Post-COVID conference attendance was something we all were proud of last year. As a matter of fact, my attendance and presentation at last year’s HubZone National Council small business conference was the first in-person and live event I had done in nearly 2 years. It was where so many amazing friendships and partnerships began, and so it will forever hold such a special place in my heart. It is a unique event because it is very well-attended but highly intimate. It allows for quality networking with a large group but you get a sense of interconnectedness that is unfamiliar in many conference settings. When you attend as many events as I do, you really appreciate a warm and welcoming environment, and this event is just that.

HubZone business leaders are especially intentional, so their presence at this event most likely contributes to the level of interaction you can have together. There is also a great sense of unity with the support of other associations and the presence of many government agencies, specifically the SBA. Back-to-back years with the SBA administrator making an appearance and addressing the community, along with many of her team, show a great sense of support and attention to the specific needs of a HubZone business. I was very impressed with the level of interaction the SBA contributes and I am encouraged that this is an initiative that is very important to them.

Not to be overlooked is the amazing team that put the event together, namely, Michelle Burnett and her associates! Year after year this event grows and provides the quality intersection of valuable information, introductions to opportunity, and networking at its finest. Not to mention a beautiful venue where we can all showcase what we do best. The pitch contest every year is also a highlight, and I love to watch Gloria Larkin, Rita Brooks, and Diane Dempsey team up for an awesome program! This year’s contestants shared some great pitches, and received feedback worthy to share with my network of new and growing GovCons!

I am so proud to have been able to represent Team Parabilis at this year’s conference, and look to keep in close contact with all the business leaders I was fortunate enough to meet this year! I am excited for what is to come for you all in FY ‘23 and look forward to being a resource to all of you in the months ahead!
